No Games Scheduled

Venezuelan Winter League Playoffs (LVBP)

Caribes de Anzoategui 9 – 8 Leones del Caracas [Series tied 1-1]
Cardenales de Lara 2 – 1 Navegantes de Magallanes [Series tied 1-1]

Dominican Winter League Round Robin (LIDOM)

Leones del Escogido 7 – 2 Toros del Este
Estrellas Orientales 6 – 4 Tigres del Licey

Liriano started the game on the bench but was brought in as a defensive replacement in the top of the seventh inning. In the bottom half of the inning with the Tigres down 4-2 and the bases loaded, Liriano pulled one into the left center field gap for a base clearing double. Unfortunately, he would only be credited for two RBIs as the runner from first base was thrown out out at home by none other than Fernando Tatis Jr.

The Estrellas would re-take the lead with two runs in the top of the eighth inning and would call on Matt Pobereyko to hold the lead in the bottom half of the inning. After striking out the lead-off batter, Pobereyko got himself into trouble by walking the next batter, allowing a single, and uncorking a wild pitch to put runners on second and third. He would bear down though, inducing another strike out followed by a line drive out to center field to end the inning and earn his league leading fourth hold of the post-season.

With the victory, the Estrellas clinched themselves a spot in the LIDOM championship game.

Roberto Clemente League Round Robin (LBPRC)

Indios de Mayaguez 4 – 3 Cangrejeros de Santurce

After a few days off, Nido was back in the lineup today for the Indios de Mayaguez. While he has looked great defensively, offensively speaking, he continues to be “just fine” as he hasn’t really done anything spectacular to distinguish himself.

On the pitching side, Torres continues to shine picking up his league leading fourth save of the playoffs. His “no hits allowed” streak did come to an end though with two outs in the ninth inning thanks to a single by Edwin Gomez. The base hit was the first allowed by Torres since December 20th spanning eleven straight appearances, twelve and two-thirds innings, or forty straight batters faced.
