According to baseballontheisland.com, RHP Anthony Kay underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday. The Mets selected him with the 31st overall pick in the 2016 draft from the University of Connecticut.

Kay signed for $1.1 million ($872,000 under slot value) and joined the Brooklyn Cyclones, but did not see game action due to elbow concerns found in his post-draft physical, per Jim Callis of MLB.com. Kay threw 119 innings in the Spring of 2016 with the Huskies.

Kay attended Ward Melville high school in East Setauket, NY, the same school that produced Mets’ starter Steven Matz. Matz, like Kay, needed Tommy John surgery before making his professional debut.
