The MLB Draft starts today! The Mets have the 20th overall pick and there are a host of options for the Mets to consider.

Keith Law of ESPN released his latest mock draft for insiders on Sunday Morning. He has the Mets selecting LSU righty Alex Lange. Law writes, “The Mets have been attached to a few college bats, though I think they would take Lange or Nate Pearson over Logan Warmoth if all three players are available here.”

Alex Lange’s fastball sits at 92-96 and has a good curve with a developing changeup, however he has bad tendencies on the mound which lead to control issues.

Nate Pearson is a hard-throwing junior college righty who was clocked at 102 MPH in a recent bullpen session. Pearson’s slider is average and his curveball and changeup are still developing. He had a screw put in his elbow during high school but that hasn’t been an issue in college. Pearson is rumored to have a deal in place with a team drafting 21-26 according to Law in his chat. Pearson did a Q&A session with MLB Daily Dish.

Jim Callis and Jonathan Mayo of MLB.Com also updated their mock draft this morning and both have the Mets selecting Nate Pearson. They also mention the Mets are interested in Alex Lange. Similar to what Keith Law predicted for the Mets.

Baseball America released their mock draft this morning and they have the Mets taking prep lefty, Trevor Rogers. Rogers is from New Mexico and has a lanky 6’6” frame. He throws 88-92 while touching the mid-90s. His motion is easy and throws a nice slider, with a developing curve and changeup.

I still hope for Keston Hiura but Baseball America, Jim Callis, and Jonathan Mayo believe he has a under the slot deal very high in the draft. He is arguably the most advanced college hitter in the class but has no defensive home yet. Many teams may try to pounce on that.

While mock drafts often tell a lot, it is worth noting that no mock draft linked the Mets to Justin Dunn. Often these drafts get a huge shakeup very early on. It will be an interesting day for the Mets.
