Tacoma 12, Las Vegas (10-11) 1 Box Score

Today wasn’t a pretty day for the 51s on either side of the ball. Duane Below started the game and went five and one third innings while giving four runs on eight hits. Stolmy Pimental came in for relief and things got uglier fast. In two and two third innings, he allowed six runs to cross the plate.

It was a quiet day for the 51s offense. As always, T.J. Rivera had a hit. He went 1 for 4 with his second home run of the season and he is now batting .338 on the season. Ty Kelly also went 1 for 4 and is fourth in the PCL with a .375 batting average.

Gavin Cecchini
went 1 for 3 with a walk and has reached base ten times with four RBI over his last 4 games. Brandon Nimmo extended his modest hitting streak to four game with a 1 for 4 night, he is hitting .314 over his last ten games.

New Hampshire 3, Binghamton (11-10) 1  Box Score

Unfortunately, the B-Mets had their season-best six-game winning streak come to an end today.

Shortstop Phillip Evans‘ fielding error in the first inning led to three unearned runs for Robert Gsellman. Following the Evans error, Rowdy Tellez hit a single scoring one and Matt Dean followed by scorching a double into right field scoring another run. Jorge Saez then laced an RBI single into left to make it 3-0.

Gsellman (1-1) settled down after the turbulent first inning and followed with four scoreless innings. On the day, he allowed three runs, all unearned, on four hits over five innings, suffering his first loss of the season. Gsellman also had five strikeouts bringing him to 25 on the year which is seventh best in the Eastern League so far.

It was a quiet day for the B-Mets bats, compiling only four hits on the day. Jared King led the way going 2 for 3 with an RBI double. Xorge Carrillo went 1 for 3 with a run scored. Dominic Smith was 0 for 4 and failed to reach base for the first time in ten games.

St. Lucie (14-10) 5, Palm Beach 4 Box Score

Casey Delgado got the nod, and didn’t have as much as success as he’s had in his most recent starts. He gave up four runs across six innings, while striking out five and issuing three walks. He did move to 4-0 on the season with a 2.67 ERA and 0.96 WHIP.

Ben Griset came in, collected two outs and was followed by Robert Coles who threw one and one third innings with a strikeout but each allowed an inherited runner to score that went on Delgado’s tally. Tim Peterson shut the door in the ninth with two strikeouts, earning his first save of the season and lowering his ERA to 0.82. He has struck out 18 in his first 11 innings this year.

Wuilmer Becerra led the offense going 3 for 4 and now leads the Florida State League with a .371 batting average. Not bad for the “throw in” of the RA Dickey trade. He has now reached base 11 times over the past four games and has a seven-game hitting streak. He continues to be the designated hitter though as he is resting a sore shoulder.

Kevin Taylor also went 3 for 4 with a three-run homer. Jhoan Urena went 1 for 4 with a run batted in. Amed Rosario got his first day off in 2016.

Kannapolis 5 Columbia (13-11) 4  Box Score

The Fireflies lost their first rain-shortened game at Spirit Communications Park, 5-4. In his Fireflies debut, outfielder Enmanuel Zabala went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Dash Winningham went 1 for 2 with a run batted in. He is now batting .280 on the season. Vinny Siena went 1 for 4 on the day and is currently batting .356, 4th best in the South Atlantic League.

Columbia struck first when David Thompson’s ground ball scored J.C. Rodriguez. Kannapolis tied the game up when Dante Flores hit a single off the first-base bag that brought Tyler Sullivan around to score from second base.

In the bottom of the third, Zabala hit a double to left-field and promptly scored when JC Rodriguez ripped a double to right field which put the Fireflies up 2-1. Rodriguez finished the game 1 for 1 with three walks and a stolen base out of the leadoff spot. Thompson has gone 0 for his last 7 but still leads baseball with his 27 RBI.

The Fireflies ending up giving up the lead and the game after Johnny Magliozzi (L, 1-1)  imploded for three runs in the 6th inning. Columbia starter Joe Shaw went five innings allowing only one earned run with a season low three strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 2.57 for the season to go along with a 1.14 WHIP.
