Tucson 4, Las Vegas 3

The Las Vegas 51s were defeated Sunday 4-3 at the Tucson Padres, dropping three of four games in the crucial Pacific Coast League series. The 51s entered a half game behind Tucson in the Pacific Southern standings, but couldn’t move into first place. All three defeats to the Padres were by one run.

Chris Schwinden was average in this one, allowing three runs — two earned — over five-and-two-thirds innings pitched.

Wilmer Flores’ two-run double in the top half of the seventh inning tied the game at three for Las Vegas. However, Tucson scored the winning run in the bottom half of the frame. Mike Baxter had three of the 51s’ seven hits, including a double. Zach Lutz also doubled and had two hits.

Las Vegas remains on the road Monday when they start a three-game series at Salt Lake. Thursday, the 51s return to Cashman Field to host Tucson for three games before the Triple-A all-star break.
