The Las Vegas 51s took a significant step today toward clinching the Pacific Southern Division title.

Las Vegas (78-58) swept a doubleheader from host Colorado Springs, winning 2-1 in 10 innings and 10-9 in the seven-inning second game. More important, Sacramento lost to Fresno, giving Las Vegas a 3 1/2-game lead in the standings with six games remaining.

Ruben Tejada had a hand in both Las Vegas runs in the opener. In the third inning, he belted a run-scoring single. In the 10th, his grounder was mishandled by the Colorado Springs defense in allowing Kirk Nieuwenhuis to score the winning run.

The teams combined for 19 hits and 23 hits in the shortened second game, including a five-run third inning for Las Vegas. Catcher Anthony Recker went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run to pace the 51s, Brandon Hicks also homered and Eric Campbell went 2-for-2 with three runs scored.

Justin Hampson and Sean Henn pulled double duty and pitched in both games, with a scoreless inning in each.

The series continues Tuesday at Colorado Springs.
