The Las Vegas 51s drop both games of a doubleheader Friday to visiting Tucson at Cashman Field.

The 51s were limited to four hits in the first game, falling 6-0 in seven innings. D.J. Mitchell made the start after working primarily out of the bullpen recently, and struggled, allowing three runs in 3.1 innings of work. Once he allowed the run in the second inning, it was all the Padres would need as the 51s only mustered four hits in the entire game. They had only one at-bat with a runner on second all game. It didn’t help their cause when three runs crossed in the seventh, unearned, due to a fielding error by Zach Lutz and a wild pitch.

The second game, however, went eight innings after the 51s evened the score at four in the bottom of the seventh. But Tucson won the game in the eighth on an RBI groundout from Jonathan Galvez.

Chris Schwinden was so-so in six innings of work, giving up two home runs and four runs overall, but it just wasn’t in the cards for the 51s.

Eric Campbell went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Las Vegas in the second game, and catcher Francisco Pena also had three hits.

The final game of the series is at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. It’s the 51s’ last game until July 18 for the Triple-A all-star game.
