Alex Torres Among Ten Mets Minor Leaguers To Become Free Agents

News of more Mets minor league players elected free agency have come out with lefty Alex Torres being the most notable among the newest group. Torres finished the season the the Las Vegas 51’s after struggling with the Mets as he had a 3.15 ERA, 5.73 FIP and 1.515 WHIP in 34.1 innings.

Torres was brought over to the Mets in a trade made during Spring Training that sent Cory Mazzoni and Brad Wieck to the Padres.

He is joined my fellow 51’s relief pitcher Cody Satterwhite who elected to become a free agent after going 2-0 with a 4.38 ERA and 1.431 WHIP in his third season in the Mets farm system.

Scott Rice who spent the entire year in AAA is now a free agent, he had 1.82 ERA this year despite walking 28 batters in 39.2 innings for Las Vegas.

Binghamton Mets slugger Josh Rodriguez is now a free agent after a great season in which he was a midseason and postseason Eastern League All-Star. He hit .282/.368/.488 with 19 homeruns, 26 doubles and 81 RBI in 432 at bats in 2015.

Jon Velasquez who racked up 22 saves this year between the Binghamton Mets and Las Vegas is also a free agent now. He is joined by Las Vegas catcher Dan Rohlfing, Brooklyn Cyclones pitcher Edioglis Villasmil, Las Vegas infielder Zach Lutz, St. Lucie Mets pitcher Jake Kuebler and Binghamton veteran utility guy Brock Peterson.
