Baseball Prospectus has released their list of the top 101 prospects in baseball, and to not much surprise, Andres Gimenez and Peter Alonso were the only two Mets prospects to make the list. What was a pleasant surprise is how both prospects were ranked among the top 40 prospects in all of baseball.

Gimenez was ranked the 38th best prospect in baseball. The 19 year old shortstop split time between St. Lucie and Binghamton. Overall, he hit .281/.347/.409 with 29 doubles, five triples, six homers, and 46 RBI. The doubles, triples, homers, and RBI were all career highs fro him. In addition to the increased power numbers, Gimenez would also steal a career best 38 bases.

Alonso was the 40th ranked prospect in all of baseball after a season where he set all kinds of Statcast power records. In his time between Binghamton and Las Vegas, Alonso would hit .285/.395/.579 with 31 doubles, one triple, 36 homers, and 119 RBI. He would become the first ever Mets prospect to lead the entire minor leagues in homers. With his production, he is the odds on favorite to be the Mets first baseman in 2019.

It should also be noted Jarred Kelenic was ranked the 63rd best prospect overall. Kelenic was traded by the Mets along with Anthony Swarzak and Jay Bruce for Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz. In addition to being a top 101 prospect, Kelenic was the second highest rated prospect in the Mariners farm system.

In the ensuing year, the Mets do have some candidates to crack various top 100 prospect lists. In addition to Gimenez, we may see players like David Peterson, Mark Vientos, Shervyen Newton, and Ronny Mauricio make their way onto the list, or at the very least, garner serious attention.
