Betsy Helfand of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Mets first base prospect Peter Alonso will participate for Team USA in the 2018 Future’s Game.

Alonso has earned the nod as a result of the great season he has had. In 81 games between Double and Triple-A, Alonso is hitting .290/.422/.538 with 15 doubles, 18 homers, and 67 RBI. During the season, he has already set career highs in doubles, homers, RBI, extra base hits, and walks. In fact, he has already doubled his previous career high in walks.

This performance speaks to the overall improvement and hard work Alonso has put in to be a better player. Not only has that hard work shown at the plate, it has also shown itself with his play in the field with reports having him as a much improved defender at first base.

The Future’s Game is scheduled to be played on Sunday July 15th at Nationals Park as part of All Star Weekend.
