I’m beginning to think this Alvarado signing is going to have a lot bigger ramifications down the line than we all realized at the time. Two straight solid outings, each of six shutout innings, have put him on my radar of potential call-ups to work with the Mets to eat some innings late in the season. You never know who the next diamond in the rough is…
Ike Davis and Jamie Hoffmann were kind enough to crush home runs in this one, while Jack Leathersich, Greg Burke, and Justin Hampson finished off what Alvarado started. Davis enjoyed a three hit game, with a double, home run, and single. Leathersich dominated right after Alvarado’s departure for two innings, where he allowed just one hit and struck out four.
It wouldn’t be fair for me to take advantage of the Las Vegas Sun’s awesome footage of the firework show right after last night’s game — so here it is, for your viewing pleasure.

Satish- any idea of Alvarado’s stuff? What his fastball sits at, if he has any plus secondary pitch, if he’s a finesse trickster? I agree with you in that he might have a role moving forward as a depth SP arm with the Mets having gone through all of their SP depth options at the start of the season- Hefner who was by far their best SP depth option now a regular part of the rotation, Laffey DFA, McHugh traded, Mejia-? and Torres really fitting better in the pen and needed help in the pen although this guy obviously is not on the 40 man roster.
