In addition to the news from earlier this morning that BP named Amed Rosario the 15th best prospect, he has also been selected to participate in the Futures Game. He will replace the Yankees suspended shortstop Jorge Mateo. Rosario will join Dominic Smith and Dilson Herrera as the Mets minor leaguers playing in the game. The Futures Game is on July 10th in San Diego.

Here is the write up from the earlier prospect list news:

Baseball Prospectus released their midseason Top 50 Prospects with J.P. Crawford, Yoan Moncada, Julio Urias, Alex Bregman and Brendan Rodgers as their top five. The only Mets prospect on the list is shortstop Amed Rosario at number #15, which is a huge jump from #98 where BP had him coming into the season.

Here the excerpt from BP on why he was ranked number 15:

Why He’ll Succeed: Rosario keeps getting better, every season. His ability to put on good weight without sacrificing athleticism enables him to stick at the six and rake at the plate, making him a threat on both sides of the ball.

Why He Might Fail: Still a work in progress, the approach and an unusual hand path could falter against better arms and better spin. If the bat doesn’t develop as anticipated, it is still a major-league package, but not an impact one.

Rosario, who will play the entire season at 20 years old, has hit .400/.443/.564 in 15 games since being promoted to the Double-A Binghamton Mets. Overall this year, he’s hitting .325/.373/.463 with 15 doubles, career high ten triples, three home runs and a career high 50 RBI. He has also stolen 14 bases and has career low strikeout rate and career best walk rate.

The Mets shortstop of the future played in the Florida State League All-Star game and was recently named to Baseball America’s All-Prospect team for June. Coming into the 2016 season the highest that Rosario was ranked was #42 by Keith Law and BP having him at #98 was actually the lowest.
