Rosario

Baseball America released their first Prospect Hot Sheet of the 2017 season for minor league players. This is essentially a list of prospects who are performing above and beyond. The list featured two Mets prospects, Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith. Rosario and Smith checked in at 17 and 18 respectively.

After just 1 week at Triple-A, both have shown why they are the Mets best prospects. Rosario is currently slashing .344/.353/.344 for Las Vegas while Smith is slashing .406/.441/.594.

Rosario will likely start hitting for extra base-hits as he gets more acclimated to the league. Smith currently has a 177 wRC+ in Las Vegas and his ISO has jumped from .155 last year to .188. The concern for Smith has always been whether or not he will hit enough to play first base. It appears those concerns are starting to be eased as he continues to progress.

In addition to being growing hitters, both of them also have phenomenal gloves. Shortstop is one of the most demanding positions in baseball on the defensive side of the equation. Rosario would likely be the Mets best defensive shortstop since Rey Ordonez. Yes, he has a better glove than Jose Reyes had in his first stint as a Met.

Both are held in a very high regard by the Mets organization and could be starting MLB players as soon as next season. These two have some of the highest upside of any prospect in baseball and might very well be the answer at their respective positions for years to come. Patience is the key with these two. They will see their time eventually but rushing them would not be wise.

It is easy to see why the Mets invested so much into these two. Get excited about these two fellow Mets fans, I certainly am.
