Given how injured Asdrubal Cabrera looks on the field and with the slow starts of both Neil Walker and Jose Reyes, fans have begun to clamor for top prospect Amed Rosario to get called-up to the major leagues. Once fans stop and pay attention to what Rosario is doing in Triple-A, those cries are only going to become deafening.
So far in his 18 games played, Rosario is hitting .414/.455/.486 with three doubles, a triple, eight RBI, and five stolen bases. He has recorded a hit in 16 of the 18 games he has played this season, he has reached base in 17 of the 18 games he has played, and he has recorded an extra base hit in three of his last five games.
With this hot start, Rosario ranks second in hits, third in batting average, and fifth in OBP in the Pacific Coast League. The scary part is Rosario is only getting better going 8-12 with two runs, a double, triple, three RBI, and a stolen base in his last three games.
With a start like that Rosario is overshadowing everyone including Jordan Humphreys who is off to just as hot a start as Rosario is this season.
In four starts for the Columbia Fireflies, Humphreys is a perfect 4-0. He’s a perfect 4-0 because he’s absolutely dominating the competition. So far this season, Humphreys has a 1.42 ERA, 0.71 WHIP, and a 12.1 K/9. He’s doing that while limiting opposing batters to a .165 batting average against.
Overall, he’s dominating the opposition and recording big strikeout totals, including 12 in his last start, while going fairly deep into games. So far this season, Humphreys is averaging 6.1 innings per start.
So while Rosario is making the case he should be called-up to the majors, Humphreys is also making a similar case for himself to get promoted to St. Lucie. These are two promising prospects off to hot starts.
Humphrey’s striking out 35.8% of batters faced and walking 3.2% of batters faced is perhaps most impressive, to go along with that minuscule WHIP. He certainly has caught the attention of everyone paying attention.
Reminds me of what Szapucki was doing last year. He’s well on his way to a promotion mid season or earlier. I feel Cecchini would be called up before Rosario even though he’s in a slump in AAA this season.
The entire Fireflies starting pitching is impressive. Merandy Gonzales and Colin Holderman have even lower WHIP for the Fireflies.
Yes it is Rocky. And there is no doubt that Merandy in particular has been even better than expected so far this year, which is saying a lot as there were high expectations for him.
I just really didn’t hear much about Humphreys until this year. So, he’s the new, shiny toy. Caught my eye with his first start and keeps getting shinier. Have you seen him pitch at all?
I have not seen any of the Firefly pitchers. I believe Mike Mayer was high on Humphrey before the season so I have been keeping an eye on him.
He is intriguing. Have found very little video of him as Tebow dominates the videos on the Fireflies website.
Whats awesome to me is people were asking who will be the next mets starter to seperate himself. I heard lots of names mentioned but I didn’t hear anyone mention humphreys. He’s been a very nice surprise. Holderman, Humphries and Gonzalez make up a pretty impressive group of starters.
anyone remember all the so called experts saying we have nothing left on the farm? looks like there are still kids coming at all the different levels
Yes a nice new crop a guys we Met fans can fantasize about the future rotation in 3-4 years of : either Syndergaard, Matz, Gsellman, Szapucki, Dunn, Conlon, Molina, Gonzalez, Humpries. I’m forgetting people but the future looks good if half the guys make the ML roster at some point.
