Right now, Asdrubal Cabrera is on the disabled list. Jose Reyes is hitting below the Mendoza Line. In every way, shape, and form, this Mets team is languishing.
The New York Mets team needs a tremendous jolt, and given the composition of both the Major League roster and the organization as a whole, the obvious spot to upgrade (outside of pitching of course) is the shortstop position.
In order to do that, the Mets would have to call-up uber prospect Amed Rosario. The Mets have given a multitude of reasons why this won’t happen. He hasn’t had enough at-bats at the Triple-A level. The team does not want him to come up to the majors unless it is on a long-term basis. Asking a prospect to be a savior is never an ideal situation. The Mets do not want to be in the position of having to send Rosario back down if he begins to struggle. Super Two status.
There are many, many more as a new excuse seems to arise whenever the topic arises.
For his part, all Rosario does is go out there and play extremely well. For the season, Rosario is hitting .364/.407/.523 with 11 doubles, two triples, three homes, and 26 RBI.
Over the past nine games, Rosario is 15-41 with four doubles, a triple, two homers, 11 RBI, and a stolen bases. He has recorded a hit in eight of those games. He is currently in the midst of a four game multi-hit streak. In those four games, he has gone 8-18 with two doubles, a triple, a homer, six RBI, and a stolen base. All while the call for him from fans and beat writers gets louder.
During this stretch, he has played both shortstop and third base, and according to reports, he looked terrific at third base.
Overall, Rosario is doing everything he possibly can do to force the Mets to call him up to the majors. With the Mets playing this poorly, and with Rosario absolutely raking, the Mets are going to eventually run out of excuses. The team is going to be forced to call him up. If that happens, don’t be surprised, be ready.
Rosario promote to ,Mets, Guillorme,Oswalt,:Peterson, Conlon to AAA. Mets have to rotate arms in pipeline to get through year.
I doubt gets promoted until sometime in June after Mets gain another
year of control on Rosario’s free agency well down the road.
I agree though about promoting the pitchers to AAA right now, And Guillorne once Rosario gets called up.
been saying this for weeks now.
Wouldn’t gain another year of control, that date passed in April. Rosario would get another year of arbitration if he was called up before the super two date.
He’s getting called up this year before those September call ups. Its just a matter of when. the pitching has been a hot dumpster fire, they need guys that can get people out. Gsellman is probably a bad outing or a signing away from being sent down to work on his crappiness and how not to be crappy.
And while they are at it, they can bring up Dom. Smith. Neither of these kids need any more time at the roulette wheels in Vegas. Remember when Reyes and Wright became Mets? It transformed their team. Time to make a big move.
It surprises me how people still don’t know the difference between gaining the extra year of control and super two status, which only affects arbitration years.
Very little talked about subject, and even less so before the Kris Bryant thing a few years ago.
Eh, I’d say it stems back even further to Bryce Harper, who’s arrival was even more anticipated than Bryant’s. Yeah, it’s not talked about on a daily basis but clarification on the topic is repeated everytime anyone talks about service time and calling up prospects. You would think that by now a majority wouldn’t get them confused…
Anywho, any news on Szapuckis time line? And if they’re going to continue using Dunn in a follow up start role?
Nothing on Szapucki and Dunn is going to keep starting.
Yeah those guys infused so much energy into the team. Guys like Rosario, Smith, Cecchini & Nimmo can really add some energy to the team.
