MLB Pipeline made their selections for the top rookies in Major League Baseball for the 2020 season, with Mets shortstop Andres Gimenez being chosen as the shortstop on the second team.

Gimenez, 22, is hitting .265/.336/402 with three doubles, two triples, three home runs, 12 RBIs, and seven stolen bases. The youngster has started 21 games at shortstop, four games at second, and three games at third base during his rookie season.

The left-handed hitter was a surprise inclusion on the Opening Day roster with no obvious opportunity for playing time. Injuries to Robinson Cano and Eduardo Nunez, as well as poor play from Amed Rosario gave Gimenez a chance and he ran with it right off the bat.

Rookie left-handed starter David Peterson was not selected for either team in what is a deep year for strong rookie pitching. The former first round pick is 5-2 with a 3.80 ERA in eight starts and one relief appearance.
