The New York Mets announced in their game notes today they’ve promoted their top prospect, Andres Gimenez, to the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

With the Advanced-A St. Lucie Mets this season, the 19-year-old posted a .282/.348/.432 slash-line with 20 doubles, four triples, six home runs, 123 wRC+ and a league-leading 28 stolen bases. Across prospect boards, he’s regarded to be the Mets top prospect.

Gimenez is ranked as the No. 68 prospect in baseball according to Baseball America saying this about the youngster, ”Nothing phases Gimenez at the plate, where he has the attributes to be an above-average hitter. His lefthanded swing is direct to the ball, and he identifies pitches well, doesn’t swing and miss often and hangs in versus southpaws.”

Gimenez showed growth throughout this year. Coming into the season, he was already known to have an advanced plate discipline and skilled defensive instincts, but was yet to show much power. In 2018, he has filled out more which has resulted in a career-high in home runs.

The slick fielding shortstop did all of this while being 3.5 years younger than the average age in the Florida State League.
