Anthony Kay Strong In St. Lucie Debut

New York Mets left-handed pitching prospect Anthony Kay made his debut for St. Lucie Mets on Wednesday night, and he impressive with seven and a third innings of two-run baseball.

Kay, 23-years-old and a former first round pick out of the University of Connecticut and a New York native, is best known for his wicked change-up, a mid-90s fastball, and a cruveball for a third pitch.

Kay had posted a 4.54 ERA for Columbia this year. Anthony is in his first season back after having Tommy John Surgery, and has opened some eyes within the Mets organization with his level of success in his first full season since being drafted during the 2016 MLB Draft in the Compensatory Round, just twelve picks after Justin Dunn.

Kay started off his night with four perfect innings against the Bradenton Marauders. He was knocked around in the fifth with two runs scoring, both earned, but he was able to stay away from an implosion and limit the damage to two runs.

He settled in for two more scoreless innings before leaving the game with in the eighth inning. He gave up seven hits and two walks on the night while picking up the win in the Mets 3-2 victory. He struck out four, and also picked two off. Part of Kay’s game is his strong pick off move, and he showed it on Wednesday.

Kay is now 5-4 on the season with a 4.24 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and has struck out 82 batters in 76.2 innings compared to only 24 walks.
