Appalachian League Player Of The Week: Kingsport OF Wuilmer Becerra

lrg_Kingsport_Mets52MiLB.com announced on Monday that Kingsport outfielder Wuilmer Becerra has been named the Appalachian League Player of the Week.

The Venezuelan outfielder came over to the Mets in the trade that also brought over Travis d’Arnaud, Noah Syndergaard and Travis Buck.  The Blue jays received R.A. Dickey, Josh Thole and Mike Nickeas from the Mets in December 2012.

In his first season in Rookie ball, Becerra in 24 games is batting .325/.367/.554, with five home runs and 13 RBI’s in 83 at bats. The 19-year-old homered twice on July 14th and then went 5-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI on Wednesday. 

In the past week, he batted .563/.563/1.250, 9-for-16,  with four runs scored, two doubles, three home runs, four RBI’s in four games.
