Bowie 13, Binghamton 1

The Bowie Baysox blasted five home runs and thumped the Binghamton Mets, 13-1, on Thursday night at Prince George’s Stadium. The Baysox pounded out 16 hits, including a dozen off starter Erik Goeddel, and handed the B-Mets their most lopsided loss of the season.

The onslaught against Goeddel started immediately. After a leadoff single by Travis Adair, Buck Britton launched a two-run homer to right. Caleb Joseph made it back-to-back shots with a solo blast to left-center. Following two singles, Brandon Waring golfed a 1-0 offering over the left-field wall, giving the Baysox a 6-0 lead.

Bowie continued the offensive pressure in the second. Josh Horton zipped a double off the right-field wall to start the frame, took second on a single and came home with Bowie’s seventh run of the game on a sac fly by Seth Loman.

Trailing by seven, the B-Mets finally got on the board in the fifth against Daniel McCutchen. Travis Taijeron deposited a 2-1 pitch from the righty over the left-field wall for his 14th homer of the season with the B-Mets. It turned out to be Binghamton’s only offensive highlight of the night.

The Baysox removed all doubt in the blowout with a five-run fifth. Waring continued his memorable night with a two-run homer to dead center. Goeddel surrendered a single and collected one more out before getting pulled from the game. Armando Rodriguez took over and allowed two straight hits, including a two-run triple by Britton. Britton scampered home on a wild pitch later in the frame to kick Bowie’s lead to 12-1.

Waring was not done with the B-Mets pitching staff. The third baseman, who had entered the game with a .159 batting average in August, launched a solo homer in the sixth off Rodriguez, his third longball of the game. He is the first opponent to hit three home runs against the B-Mets in one game since Danny Espinosa performed the feat as a Harrisburg Senator on August 4, 2010.

Clay Schrader took the game to the finish line with two scoreless innings of relief for the Baysox. Adam Kolarek and Chasen Bradford each chipped in with two shutout frames to close Binghamton’s pitching tab.

Goeddel (9-7) allowed 10 runs on 12 hits, both career-highs, over 4-2/3 innings in the loss. McCutchen (2-0) surrendered one run over 4-1/3 innings and earned the victory after taking over for Major League rehabber Jason Hammel.

The B-Mets (84-54) return to the Southern Tier and start their final series of the regular season on Friday at 7:05 PM against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. LHP Darin Gorski takes the hill against RHP Deck Mcguire.
