Binghamton Mets (6-9)

Vs

Portland Sea Dogs (6-12)

The struggling Binghamton Mets (6-9) managed to salvage the last game of a four game series against the SeaWolves with a 6-2 victory. The minor league veterans on the squad, Derrik Gibson (.315/.421/426) and Niuman Romero (.291/.375/.418) have provided consistency, while Jeff McNeil (.250/357/.583) mends on the 7 day DL, and Dom Smith (.238/.273/.381) adjusts to the advanced pitching of AA.

The team has yet to release the probable pitchers for the series, but expect Robert Gsellman (1-0, 1.45) to take the hill for the first game. With the St. Lucie team traveling, a rehabbing Josh Edgin (0.69 WHIP in 4.1 innings) could make his way north.

Smith (.296/.345/.444 over the last week) will have to continue to make adjustments as the B’Mets host the Portland Sea Dogs (6-12) for a three game series. For all the ballyhoo the Red Sox system receives for their blue chippers, the Portland roster is void of that high end talent.

Coming into the series, the Portland offense has mustered 49 runs in 18 games, and ranks last in the Eastern League in all statistical categories. Offensive players of note would be Cole Sturgeon (.327/.365/.469) and Wendell Rijo (.205/.255/.341) both of whom I think Terry Collins would call a ballplayer. The Sea Dogs pitching staff is led by a familiar name, Teddy Stankiewicz (0.78 WHIP) who was the Mets unsigned 2012 second round draft pick  and RP Chandler Shepherd (12 K/9).
