The Binghamton Mets have released their official 2017 Opening Day roster which you can see here.

Same names as below, but with infielder Jeff McNeil starting the season on the 7-day disabled list and outfielder Kevin Kaczmarski on the temporarily inactive list to deal with a personal matter.

Original Report – April 4

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets released their preliminary roster on Tuesday. The list is headlined by top prospects Luis Guillorme and P.J. Conlon, and features 13 players who made stops in Binghamton last season.

The newly named Rumble Ponies enter their first season under Luis Rojas, who comes to the Southern Tier after managerial jobs with St. Lucie (2015-16), Savannah (2012-14), and the GCL Mets (2011). In those six seasons, Rojas has amassed a 400-339 (.541) record.

Pill will hold the distinction of being the first starting pitcher in Rumble Ponies history, although it’s hardly an honor when you’re returning to Binghamton for a fifth season. Pill will be followed in the rotation by Conlon, Oswalt, Delgado, and Jannis, whose kunckleball earned him a 5.69 ERA in 27 starts last year.

It will be exciting to watch Taylor close games for Binghamton this season, after he impressed in his first major league camp in March. Lefties Baldonado and Griset are also names worth keeping an eye on.

It’s rare that a team’s biggest offensive weapon is their catcher, but that appears to be the case for this Rumble Ponies squad. Nido is coming off a career renaissance, after his .320 average led the Florida State League. He also set career highs in nearly every category, including cutting his strikeouts in half.

Other highlights in the lineup include Thompson and Kaczmarski, who both join Binghamton in only their second full seasons as a professional. Thompson drove in an astounding 95 runs between St. Lucie and Columbia in 2016, while Kaczmarski hit .280/.360/.418 and swiped 14 bags.

The Rumble Ponies take the field for the first time on Thursday, April 6, against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, and make their home debut at NYSEG Stadium on April 13 against the Erie Seawolves.
