Savannah 9, Lexington 2

Game one of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Lexington Legends was played in front of 836 fans Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah had a big second inning scoring six runs, and carried that momentum to win the game 9-2.

Lexington scored their two runs in the first. Left fielder Ethan Chapman led off the game with a single and advanced to second on a fielding error by center fielder Brandon Nimmo, eventually scoring on a triple by shortstop Raul Mondesi. A ground out then followed to score Mondesi.

In the second inning, Savannah took advantage of three walks and smacked five hits to score six runs and break the game open. A single by Brandon Nimmo in the sixth drove in a run to give Savannah a 7-2 lead. The Sand Gnats mounted another rally in the seventh inning, and scored two runs. Stefan Sabol hit a home run over the left field fence, his fifth round-tripper of the year. Second baseman Yucary De La Cruz singled, driving in right fielder Eudy Piña to make the score 9-2.
