Brooklyn Wins Walk-Off Thriller, 3-2

Julio Concepcion led the Cyclones to their fourth walk-off of the year, 3-2. Brooklyn continued its strong pitching in this series with Batavia only allowing two hits in the game. So far in this series, Brooklyn pitchers have combined for 19.0 IP, seven hits, two walks, two runs and 20 strikeouts.

Jared King continued his hot hitting Sunday afternoon, extending his hitting streak to six games by doubling to the left field corner to lead off the second inning. James Roche then came up after Alex Sanchez and Julio Concepcion were retired and doubled to the right field scoring King and giving the Cyclones the 1-0 lead.

Gant had been cruising through the first 4.0 IP, but ran into some trouble in the top of the fifth inning. After retiring Sharif Othman to leadoff the inning, Javier Lopez walked and moved to third on a single by Justin Bohn. Connor Burke then hit a grounder toJustin Tuner who was playing back, scoring Lopez and tying the game at 1-1.

Cristian Chivilli came in relief of Gant and was pitching into his third inning of the game and struck out Connor Burke for the first out of the inning bringing up Yefri Perez who reached on a fielding error by Anthony Chavez. With JT Riddle up to bat, Perez stole second and then advanced to third after Riddle grounded out for the second out of the inning. Chivilli then intentionally walked Avery Romero before being taken out of the game by Rich Donnelly who elected to bring in Paul Paez who really struggled.Paez walked the first batter he faced on four pitches to load the bases then walked Carlos Lopez on five pitches bringing in the leading run to make it 2-1. David Wynnthen came in with the bases loaded and two outs and avoided further trouble.

Just like all season, Brooklyn came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the eighth inning. L.J. Mazzilli led the inning off with a single, bringing up King who would reach on a fielders choice. Sanchez then came up and ripped a single to left advancingKing to third with one out. Concepcion then hit a grounder to shortstop Javier Lopez who made the flip to second baseman JT Riddle who then threw to first but Concepcionwas able to beat the throw, scoring King and tying the game at 2-2.

After Wynn retired the Muckdogs 1-2-3 in the top of the 10th, Justin Turner led the inning off with a single up the middle before advancing to second on a single to left byMazzilli. Jared King, the hottest hitter in the lineup for the Cyclones, elected to lay down a sac bunt advancing both runners one base. Batavia reliever, Casey McCarthey then intentionally walked Matt Oberste to load the bases in hopes of a double play, bringing up Concepcion. With two strikes on him, Concepcion laced a single down the left field line scoring Turner, giving Brooklyn the 3-2 win.
