The Sydney Blue Sox certainly made some noise when they announced that Mets top catching prospect Francisco Alvarez had signed with them to play winter ball this offseason in Australia.

Sydney later announced that prospect Carlos Cortes would join the team as well, and on Wednesday night they tweeted that left-handed relief prospect Andrew Mitchell will suit up for the Blue Sox.

Their season starts on December 18th.

Cortes, 23, hit .255/.336/.397 with 26 doubles, three triples, 11 home runs, 68 RBIs for the Class-A St. Lucie Mets in 2019. The left-handed hitter posted a 119 wRC+ in a Florida State League known to suppress offense.

The ambidextrous thrower has played almost exclusively second base in his minor league career, going out to left field for only two innings for St. Lucie in 2019.

Mitchell, 25, will again be a teammate of Cortes after pitching in 15 games for St. Lucie in 2019. Overall, across three levels, Mitchell posted a 2.14 ERA and struck out 63 in 49 innings. The former 14th round pick held lefty hitters to a .505 OPS in 2019 as well.
