Serpentineros reports Mets catching prospect Xorge Carrillo has won a Rawlings Gold Glove in the Mexican Pacific Winter Leagues.
While catching for Águilas de Mexicali (Mexicali Eagles), Carrillo posted a .995 fielding percentage while taking part in six double plays. The Gold Glove is of little surprise as Carrillo has quickly established himself as a good defensive catcher during his time in the Mets farm system.
Coming off another strong defensive season, Carrillo was a non-roster invitee to Major League Spring Training this season. After beginning the season in Binghamton last year, Carrillo finished the year in Las Vegas after Kevin Plawecki was added to the Mets roster in September.
Carrillo will be playing for Team Mexico in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
Was watching some video from some Binghamton games last season and was really impressed by Carrillo’s pitch framing ability, along with the rest of his defensive game. He definitely deserves some recognition for his glove.
He’s certainly improved too, I remember first seeing him in Binghamton and thought he was a little sloppy behind the plate.
