Cecchini Brothers Making Waves In Pro Baseball

I found an interesting post on the Bleacher Report, where Mike Rosenbaum writes that Red Sox prospect Garin Cecchini could be Major League trade bait at the Winter Meetings.  The one interesting thing here is that Garin is the older brother of Mets Prospect Gavin Cecchini.

Garin was drafted out of Alfred M. Barbe High School in Lake Charles, LA by the Red Sox in the 4th round of the 2010 draft and Gavin was drafted also out of the same high school by the Mets in the 1st round of the 2012 draft and both continue to make progress towards in their development.

Garin has struggled through some nagging injuries but in three seasons in the Redsox organization, last playing in Double-A, he has hit .312/.417/.457, with 83 Doubles, 12 Triples, 14 HR, 146 RBI, 86 SB, 172 BB, in 1216 plate appearances.  Gavin who has played in just two seasons, and last in Class-A with Brooklyn, he has hit .256/.313/.318, with 17 Doubles, two triples, 36 RBI, in 430 plate appearances.

Both play the left side of the infield, with Garin at third base and Gavin at shortstop and with David Wright locked up until he retires, even the thought of the Mets picking up Garin would be a waste of a trade, but I am sure it would be something special in the Cecchini home to have both brothers within the same organization. But that would just prohibit Garin, especially if he makes it to the majors, from playing his normal position.

There have been more than a handful of professional baseball siblings that have played on the same team, but even though the likelihood of the Cecchini brothers playing together within the Mets organization is slim to none; it will be interesting to see the day when they both make their major league debuts. Maybe one day they will get the opportunity to share the same field on the same team.
