For the second straight day, the Scottsdale Scorpions lost in walk-off fashion, this time on a single by Franchy Cordero to give the Peoria Javelinas a 3-2 win. The Scorpions now have an Arizona Fall League worst 3-8 record.
Gavin Cecchini extended the Scorpions lead to 2-0 with a solo home run in the top of the 7th. He went 3 for 5 and is slashing .350/.423/.600 in 20 AFL at-bats with five RBI and four walks. He played shortstop again and had his fifth error, this one was on a dropped pick-off throw.
Champ Stuart went 1 for 4 with a strikeout and a his third stolen base. He’s now 5 for 20 with five strikeouts and has yet to walk.
The Scorpions starter was Mets prospect Corey Oswalt who went four scoreless innings in which he allowed only one hit and one walk. He struck out four and was hitting 94 MPH consistently with his fastball. In nine AFL innings he has allowed six runs on nine hits and six walks compared to nine strikeouts.
The Scorpions are off today, as always on Sundays.
No Nido? Boo Goodwin
Cecchini also was caught stealing second in a strike’em out/throw’em out double play
I know a few days ago I wrote that I was happy that they weren’t completely moving Cecchini off of SS, but this wasn’t what I meant. He’s there to learn 2B and play SS every once in a while. Why has he only played 2nd once.
Also, I do like that Stuart is hitting a bit and a 25% K% isn’t all that bad for him. It’s an improvement, I guess.
Can’t handle another at short.
Reynolds 3b
Rosario SS
Cecchini 2b
Smith 1b
Nimmo in center as long as the Mutts hire Bernadina to coach him.
I’ll be buying that ticket

In the AFL? That’s a drastic improvement
Good point. Also, when I wrote this, I thought that he had a K% in PSL of ~25% for the first half this year. Then I looked back and realized that it was still over 30%. Let’s hope he keeps it up. As unlikely as it may be, I still want him to be our future leadoff hitter.
