The Arizona Fall League kicked off on Tuesday, with the Scottsdale Scorpions taking on the Glendale Desert Dogs. Scottsdale, which rosters nine Mets prospects, scored seven runs early, en route to a 9-6 victory.

Tim Tebow started in left field for the Scorpions, going 0-3 with three groundouts from the seventh spot in the order. He played only five innings in the field, but managed to misjudge a fly ball off the bat of Cody Bellinger, which led Tebow to slam face-first into the wall as Bellinger scampered to second base. Josh Norris of Baseball America posted video of Tebow taking batting practice:

Gavin Cecchini was inserted into the third spot in the lineup on Tuesday, as he made his second appearance in the AFL (2015, Salt River). Although he is scheduled to see more time at second base, the 22-year-old appeared at shortstop in the opener. Cecchini started off hot and finished the same, lining an RBI single to center field in the first inning, and ripping a run scoring double in the ninth. He ended the day going 2-3 with three runs batted in.

RHP Corey Oswalt, who spent the 2016 season with the St. Lucie Mets was tabbed as Scottsdale’s starting pitcher. He lasted two innings but was credited with the win after giving up four runs on four hits and a strikeout. RHP Corey Taylor fanned two in 1.2 innings of relief work.

Matt Oberste went 0-3 with an RBI as the Scorpions’ first baseman.

Scottsdale will take on the Salt River Rafters on Wednesday at 9:35 ET. Since the game is on a Wednesday, taxi squad member Tomas Nido will be active and eligible to play for the Scorpions.
