Gavin Cecchini was honored by MiLB as the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week. Cecchini earned the honors after hitting .440/.517/.840 with two home runs and driving in 10. He also walked four times, hit four doubles and scored six runs. His 21 total bases set the pace for the entire organization.
His best performance came on Sunday night when he knocked in four runs and hit his fourth homer of the season. Today, he was also named to MLB Pipeline’s prospect team of the week.
He joins teammates Rafael Montero and T.J. Rivera as 51s to the receive player of the week award during the 2016 season. Rivera was also named the player of the month for May.
On the season Gavin, the #4 ranked prospect here at MMN, has a slash line of .328/.393/.460 with four HR, 31 R and 29 RBI. Even though the SS has struggled in the field, with 20 errors in 249 total chances, there is the possibility he starts to be utilized in a utility role to help the big league club.
After being over matched at the plate in April the guy has turned it on the last six weeks. Good for him.
I’m sure the 51’s give a collective “o-boy” when the ball is hit his way at short.
