Miller Diaz was once again brilliant from the mound in his six innings of work but in a losing effort, as the Cyclones were shutout by Vermont 1-0. Both pitchers were showing their best stuff with the game staying scoreless into the sixth inning. Brooklyn was unable to provide Diaz with any run support, but Gavin Cecchini was a perfect 4-for-4 extending his hit streak to 15 games. Diaz tossed 6.0 IP, allowed five hits and struck out seven Vermont batters.

Diaz allowed no runs through the first five innings, until the Lake Monsters struck on a few hits in the sixth. Vermont cleanup hitter Ryan Huck got it started with a one out double deep to center field over the head of Patrick Biondi. Huck then advanced to third on a sacrifice fly to right field, but James Roche made it a close play with a strong throw from deep right. With two outs, Jaycob Brugman hit a line drive single to right field, bringing home the first run of the game and giving the Lake Monsters a 1-0 lead.

The Cyclones had seven hits, four of them coming from the Cyclones hottest hitter,Cecchini. Cecchini’s 15 games hit streak is a team high this season. The last Cyclone to go on a hit streak of at least 15 games was Ike Davis in 2008. If Cechhini continues his streak, he will have a chance to tie the franchise record set by Lucas Duda at 17 on Monday, August 19 in the first game of a doubleheader with the Staten Island Yankees.

The Cyclones had a good opportunity to put some runs on the board in the bottom of the eighth inning with runners on first and second with one out. After Cecchiniconnected for his fourth hit of the day, all singles, Mazzilli singled as well to put the tying run at second for Jared King. However, King struck out leaving it up to Roche, who flew out to second base to end the inning.
