Cesar Puello has heard his name mentioned quite a few times over the last 24 hours. If you aren’t aware, ESPN’s Outside the Lines included the prospect in a list of about 20 professional ballplayers the MLB is seeking to suspend due to their alleged involvement with the Biogensis Clinic. While nothing has been proven yet and no suspensions have been handed out, it’s not fun to hear Puello included in this list, especially when he’s having a fantastic year.

The recent news didn’t deter Matt Eddy from choosing Puello as one of five prospects for him to highlight on today’s Prospect Notebook on Baseball America. Here’s what Eddy had to say about the B-Mets’ outfielder:

“This is the type of power-speed prospect that scouts envisioned when Puello ranked among the Mets Top 10 Prospects following the 2010 and ’11 seasons. The 22-year-old ranks second in the Double-A Eastern League with a .555 slugging percentage and third with 15 stolen bases, and he’s hitting .312 for Binghamton thanks to a higher walk rate and lower strikeout rate than he showed in 2012.”

He’s been enjoying great success this season in Double-A, and has thrown himself back in the conversation of being on track to help the Mets in the big leagues sometime soon. The 22-year-old has seemingly finally put it all together, but a potential suspension could through a small wrench into his development. As Mitch Petanick said earlier today, it’s been a year where Puello has fans rooting for him with his play, and having something like this put a temporary stop on his 2013 season would be disappointing.

Time will tell whether or not the MLB will have enough evidence to hand out and enforce suspensions, so we’ll need to be patient. For now, Puello is continuing his great season. He collected three more hits (one home run) and three RBIs last night against Trenton.
