On the Bleacher Report yesterday, Mike Rosenbaum posted a win – win prospect packages for top MLB trade targets on the market.  One of his predictions included the Mets and the Phillies.  In his prediction he said that the Phillies could trade Jimmy Rollins to the Mets in exchange for Cesar Puello.

He does note that the 35-year old Rollins would not be a long term option for the Mets but would be a better option than Ruben Tejada at shortstop. Rollins is set to earn $11 million for 2014, and has a vesting option written into the contract for 2015.  I am not sure giving up a top prospect for a player that is on the tail end of this career would be a great move.  Also, what would it take for the Mets to resign him for the 2015 season, and would it be worth the money.  Don’t get me wrong Rollins is a great short stop, but  unless the Phillies eat most of the contract, I do not see that the deal is worth it.

Last season in 600 at bats, he had only six home runs and 39 RBI’s while batting .252/.318/.348, but he would be an upgrade to Tejada, would rather keep the light hitting short stop around, and see what Puello would do in a full season at AAA.
