Champ Stuart

The Scottsdale Scorpions finally got in the win column last night with a 9-7 victory over the Salt River Rafters in a game that was shown on MLB.com for free. The win snaps a five game losing streak and improves their record to 4-11 in Arizona Fall League play.

MLB was hyping the game all day as your chance to see Tim Tebow live and Mets minor league speedster Champ Stuart stole the show. Stuart went 2 for 3 with two runs scored, a stolen base and a walk. Probably most important is that he didn’t strike out. He’s now hitting .333/.357/.481 with four stolen bases, home run and six strikeouts compared to one walk in seven games.

Tebow was 1 for 4 on the night and even stole his first base. However, he struck out three times to bring his total to 12 in only 32 at bats. His single came off Atlanta Braves prospect Chris Ellis to start a five-run rally in the third inning.

Mets relief prospect David Roseboom bounced back from a rough outing on Monday with a 1-2-3 ninth inning to secure his first AFL save. He has pitched 5.2 innings allowing only one earned run on four hits and seven walks to go along with eight strikeouts.

The bad news on the night for Mets fans came in the bottom of the fifth inning when shortstop Gavin Cecchini had to leave the game after fouling a pitch off his foot in the top half of the inning. He finished the game going 1 for 3 and is slashing .258/.359/.419 in nine games.

The Scorpions are back at it today with Mets prospect Corey Oswalt on the mound to start the game at 3:35pm ET.
