With the Mets in need of help in the outfield, now with Curtis Granderson banged up with contusions to the left rib cage, forearm and knee and Juan Lagares most likely headed to the DL with a “pulled” right hamstring, Chris Young is waiting in the minors to get his call.  But unfortunately, the Mets can not make that call until Friday the earliest, because that is when CY will be eligible to come off the DL.

In 10 plate appearances in his rehab assignment with Las Vegas, he has reached base nine times and actually is 7 for 8, with six runs scored, a double, two home runs, five RBIs, a stolen base and two intentional walks.

What was thought to be a crowded outfield, now the Mets will need to find healthy bodies to step up and hold it down until either player can return. The hope is that neither Granderson nor Lagares miss an extended portion of the season. But the Mets can still look to their bench and give Andrew Brown and Lucas Duda time in the outfield, as they did last night, but that is not a long term fix.

They also still have options in Triple-A with players that have major league experience, likeKirk NieuwenhuisMatt den Dekker and if they really need extra help, they can bring up the hot hitting 40-year-old Bobby Abreu to man right field.  It is not the perfect scenario, but it may buy them sometime until both Granderson and Lagares can return.

The one thing that is going good so far, is the hot hitting of Chris Young in Vegas and the hope is that he continues that once he arrives Friday.

The Mets will need his help and CY is on the way, but they will have to wait a few more days for help to arrive.
