Recent Mets International Signee David Lozano Playing Winter Ball

UPDATE – David Lozano was added to the roster of Caimanes de Barranquilla in the Colombian Winter League. He has appeared in one game, striking out as a pinch hitter and staying in the game to play shortstop.

According to the Mets transaction page on the Mets.com website they have signed 17-year Colombian middle infielder David Lozano along with seven other International free agents. He signed with the Mets in September says the international news outlet Meridiano. The second baseman/shortstop bats and throws right-handed, he is 5’10 and 165 pounds.

The Mets also released the names of eight other International free agents that they signed last month and here is all the info I could find on them:

  • Jorge Martinez – 19-year old catcher from Barranquilla, Columbia. Here you can read an interview done with him after signing with the Mets in October.
  • Jeison Rodriguez – 17-year old outfielder, 6’0, 160 pounds from San Cristobal, Dominican Republic.
  • Victor Isturiz – 18-year old pitcher from Guatire, Venezuela.
  • Guillermo Granadillo – 18-year old pitcher from Valencia, Venezuela.
  • Jaison Vilera – 18-year old pitcher from Caracas, Venezuela.
  • Eulises Sanchez – 18-year old pitcher from Bonao, Dominican Republic.
  • Angel Chalas- 19-year old pitcher from San Cristobal, Dominican Republic.
  • Christopher Madera- 19-year old pitcher from La Vega, Dominican Republic.

These names are in addition to the Mets two big July 2nd international signings of shortstops Gregory Guerrero ($1.5 million) and Andres Gimenez ($1.2 million) who you can read about more here and here at Baseball America.
