Cesar Puello didn’t even have time to dust off his EAS Player the Month award before his teammate, Daniel Muno, was named the league’s player of the week.

The second baseman had a big week in Double-A for the B-Mets. While his career-high seven RBI game on July 4th was a big help, he hit .417 over the past seven days (10-24) with three home runs, 12 RBIs, one double, five runs scored, and two stolen bases. Muno recorded at least one hit in five of the six games he suited up for, and collected more than one hit in four of those games.

We put Muno under the Prospect Spotlight last week, thanks to his own set of fireworks he set off on Thursday. He had an incredibly slow start to the season in Binghamton, barely staying off the interstate. However, he saw an uptick in his production in the month of June, where he hit .293/.426/.476 with three home runs and 16 RBIs. He’s still only hitting .245 on the season, but has been on a torrid pace over the last 10 days, putting together a triple slash of .353/.532/.735.

As I said last week when featuring him, Muno has the ability to get hot in the second half of the season; after being drafted by the Mets in June 2011, the second baseman headed for Brooklyn, and tore up the NYPL with a .355/.466/.514 line. If he follows suit in the second half of this season, Muno could be putting himself in prime position to possibly make an impact in the big leagues sometime in 2014.
