After being promoted to Triple-A on May 28th, 26-year old left hander Darin Gorski made his season debut for the 51’s on Saturday.  It was a logical move made by the New York Mets considering how well Gorski was pitching in Binghamton.  This is his second stint in Triple-A with much better results expected.

Being handed the ball to pitch on a team that has seen some struggles recently, after early success, can be a daunting task for anyone.  A pitcher who is on his second go-round at the highest minor league level would feel like he has more to prove, which could be the case, but Gorski has the goods to handle it.

Saturday against the Reno Aces, Gorski was flying through the order not allowing a runner beyond second base.  He had surrendered a couple of hits but whatever trouble he got himself into, he got himself out of.  Until the seventh inning.

The seventh inning was a difficult time for Gorski and the 51’s.  Taking a 3-0 lead into the later innings of a game is enough to build any team’s confidence.  Unfortunately it all unraveled for Las Vegas and they would head into their half of seventh the complete opposite of where they started the inning.  Behind 4-3.

There are plenty of positives to take away from Gorski’s first start.  He was throwing strikes at over 60%, he was able to work out of trouble with the exception of his last inning, and he was able to control his pitches a bit better which was a knock on him last year at this level.  His next possible start could come Thursday at Cashman Field against Fresno.

Darin Gorski’s line for Saturday: 6.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
