Dario Alvarez has made a name for himself very quickly in the Mets organization.

Alvarez was part of the Philadelphia Phillies organization from 2007-2009, when he competed in the Dominican Summer League.  But he didn’t take the mound again until the 2013 season, when he joined the Mets farm team in Brooklyn.

In 2014, he quickly rose to the top with stops in Savannah, St. Lucie and then Binghamton and combined he was 10-1, with a 1.10 ERA, with 114 strikeouts in just 73.1 innings pitched.

What was more impressive was that with St. Lucie and the B-Mets combined, he tossed 12 scoreless innings, striking out 19, allowing only five hits and walked three. The south paws’ rise to the top, earned him a promotion to the Mets and a big league debut on Wednesday night in Miami.

His debut may not be one he would like to remember as Marlins left fielder Christian Yelich hit the second pitch he saw, a 80 MPH slider, for a base hit to right scoring the tying run which ended up being a blown save by the lefty. But Alvarez’s sudden rise to the top mimics that of Dilson Herrera and shows the strength of the Mets farm system.

The Dominican native will be just fine and soon enough will be unleashing that great fastball of his and mowing down even big league hitters.
