Updating a prior report, Mets first round draft pick LHP David Peterson will make his professional debut for the Brooklyn Cyclones on Friday.
You will want to arrive on time for the game scheduled at 6:40 P.M. because Peterson is scheduled to start, and the plan is for him to pitch only one inning.
ORIGINAL REPORT (August 1st)
Brooklyn Cyclones Radio Broadcaster Stuart Johnson reports Mets 2017 first round pick David Peterson will be throwing live batting practice today, and he will be making his debut for the Cyclones within the next week.
The 20th overall pick received the full slot value of $2,994,500 when he signed on July 7th. On July 14th, Peterson was officially assigned to the Brooklyn Cyclones. Since being drafted, Peterson has not appeared in a game at any level.
Before getting drafted, Peterson was 11-4 with a 2.51 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and a 12.6 K/9 in 100 innings. In his April 28th start, Peterson tied a school record with 20 strikeouts in his complete game shutout.
He should be a fast riser. I hope at least.
Just like Conforto, another Oregon product.
Hope that’s a good omen. Comes up quickly, becomes beloved core player in Mets youth movement
Too soon. Too soon. Let the kids play a couple of years and show us something in a more real environnment before developing any hope or expectations.
Peterson was a #20 pick. Thats not that big a deal. Most scouts and GMs say that after the top seven or ten, a 1st round pick is no or not much different from a second rounder. Justin Dunn was taken at 19 last year. And he was put on the fast track. And now he’s struggling. Does that mean anything? No. Its too early to say.
Nothing like Conforto. Conforto was a #10 pick who was rated higher (as high as 4 by some) and slid to #10 unexpectedly. Peterson is a #20 pick. Thats a huge difference in baseball.
yeh I know…and Piazza was number a thousand
Nothing wrong with with having hope. Also, Peterson looks a lot better than Dunn due to his size and stuff.
