Las Vegas 6, Salt Lake 5

When Wally Backman said he’d fix Ike Davis, I didn’t realize he planned to do it so quickly… let the kid marinate a little! Davis ripped a go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh that scored Wilmer Flores — and it would go on to stand as the game-winning hit as the 51s took this game, 6-5. Las Vegas didn’t get on the board till the sixth inning when Wilmer Flores drove in Mike Baxter, but it was their five-run seventh inning that put them on pace to win the game. Wilmer Flores and the aforementioned Davis were the forces in the inning, with two RBIs each.

Meanwhile on the other side of the ball, Matt Fox turned in another solid outing, and allowed just two earned runs over six innings. Both runs scored in the first, and he tossed five scoreless frames after that, allowing nine hits overall while walking none. Jack Leathersich walked two in an inning, but got out of his self-made jam — and went on to vulture his first AAA win.

Robert Carson stepped up to pick up a four-out save, his third in his brief stint in Vegas so far, and stranded an inherited runner from Justin Hampson.

It should be time for Rafael Montero to take the mound later today for Las Vegas against Barry Enright.
