Las Vegas 7, Tucson 5

In a bizarre twist of fate, Ike Davis slammed two home runs, Rafael Montero walked a pair, and  Robert Carson picked up a six-out save in a 7-5 Las Vegas win.

Yes, after walking three times the night previous, Davis showed signs of life by crushing two solo home runs and a double, which raised his Vegas average to .306. Brandon Hicks had a good game, with a pair of hits and RBIs, Brian Bixler, Wilmer Flores, and Juan Centeno each contributed an RBI on the evening as well.

I’m not particularly sure what 100-degree weather can do to the baseball, but I think I credit Montero’s so-so start to the fact that the dry heat was insane last night. Montero allowed three earned runs over five innings. He walked two, but did strike out seven as well. I guess this FO will take their time with him to keep him off the 40-man and so they can keep him for another year of arbitration.

Jack Leathersich was hit for an unearned run, but Robert Carson saved the day later on and picked up a save by closing out the game for the Mets.
