Las Vegas 6, Salt Lake 3

The Las Vegas 51s moved to within a half-game of first-place Sacramento today in the Pacific Southern Division standings, scoring four runs in the eighth inning at host Salt Lake for a 6-3 come-from-behind win.

Francisco Pena’s two-run double highlighted the eighth-inning outburst, and Brandon Hicks added an RBI double in the frame.

Jacob deGrom got the start and looked very impressive, retiring the first 15 batters to face him before he gave up a lead-off single in the top of the sixth inning. He finished with six innings pitched and was charged with two earned runs — both scored off John Church, however.

Robert Carson worked a scoreless ninth for Las Vegas to pick up his 11th save, combing with two other 51s pitchers in limiting Salt Lake to three hits.

Sacramento, which entered the day with a one-game lead, hosts Tucson later today. After today, Las Vegas will have 17 games remaining starting with a game Monday at Salt Lake; Sacramento has 15 games.
