Adam Rubin provided us all with a little update on Matt den Dekker today when he reported that den Dekker is only swinging with his left hand and is going to attempt swinging with both hands next week. Terry Collins said den Dekker’s wrist suffered disuse atrophy while in a cast for a prolonged period.Matt-Den-Dekker

Remember, his injury was a fractured right wrist, and it happened on March 24th back in Spring Training. Den Dekker was supposed to compete for the starting CF job with the Mets but the injury derailed all of that – and perhaps opened the door for the acquisition of Rick Ankiel, which Rubin notes.

It’s unfortunate to hear that den Dekker “still has a ways to go in his comeback” because a lot of people were looking for him to see some time with the MLB team this season in some way, shape, or form. A defensive wizard, den Dekker is coming off a 2012 campaign where he posted a .274/.321/.458 slash across AA/AAA with 17 HRs, 76 RBIs, and 21 SBs.
