Wally Backman told reporters after the Las Vegas 51’s 6-1 loss Wednesday night that Dilson Herrera could return soon when they play a four-game series in Fresno. The series with Fresno begins Friday at 10:05 PM ET with Seth Lugo making his second start of the year.

Dilson Herrera has been limited to designated hitter duty to start the 2016 season as he has been dealing with a sore throwing shoulder. He has just three at bats over the last three games because the DH wasn’t available and he was limited to pinch hitting duty.

Backman had this to say about Herrera:

“He’s throwing fine right now. He’s on this throwing program for four or five days,” manager Wally Backman said. “He’s scheduled to take a full infield when we go to Fresno, and then if all is good, he’s ready to go. “

Herrera has gone 3 for 13 with two doubles and three strikeouts to start the season. When he returns to will bolster an already strong infield of Matt Reynolds, Gavin Cecchini, T.J. Rivera, Marc Krauss, Danny Muno, and the recently demoted Eric Campbell. Reynolds has played three games at third base for the first time in his pro career after playing primarily there in college.

In other injury news, Josh Edgin made his second appearance on the TJS comeback trail for the St. Lucie Mets last night. He faced three hitters, allowing a single to the first batter he faced to score an inherited runner before getting the next two hitters out on only four pitches. Overall he threw five pitches with four of them being strikes.
