Colombia is headed to the World Baseball Classic for the first time ever thanks to a game-winning 8th inning solo home run by Dilson Herrera to beat Panama by a 2-1 score.

The Colombian hero crushed a 3-1 pitch from former major league pitcher Manny Corpas over the fence in left field to give his team the lead and ultimately the win.

The win ended in fitting fashion as Herrera fielded an easy ground ball and threw it to first for the final out.

Herrera was 2-for-4 in the victory and was 4 for 11 overall with three walks, three RBI, and three runs scored in three games for Colombia.

Mets pitching prospect Nabil Crismatt got the start for Colombia going 3.1 innings, he allowed one run on three hits, two walks and struck out four.

Herrera certainly has a flair for the dramatic and carries the clutch gene as he had the game winning RBI in all three victories.

His spot on the 2017 Opening Day Lineup for the Mets at second base is virtually assured, and he could even push his way onto the roster this season.

Team Mexico clinched their spot in the 2017 WBC with a 7-inning 12-1 victory over Nicaragua. Mets catching prospects Xorge Carrillo went 0 for 3 on the night but did score two runs. He went 0 for 7 in the tournament.
