The New York Mets have announced the full coaching staff for the Triple-A Syracuse Mets under new manager Brian Schneider. Joining the returning Joel Chimelis as the hitting coach is former Mets minor league manager Rich Donnelly as bench coach and former Mets reliever D.J. Carrasco as pitching coach.

Carrasco, 42, was signed by the first free agent signed Sandy Alderson signed to a Major League deal as the general manager of the New York Mets. In his two years with the Mets, Carrasco was 1-3 with a 6.11 ERA, 1.679 WHIP, and a 1.88 K/BB. His claim to Mets infamy was on June 16, 2011 he would balk home the winning run in a loss to the Atlanta Braves.

After the Mets released him in 2012, he would not pitch again in the Major Leagues. After retiring from baseball, he was hired as an advanced scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he had served on the coaching staff of New Zealand’s National Team.

In 2018, Carrasco left the Dodgers to return to New Zealand to serve as the pitching coach for the Auckland Tuatara of the Australian Baseball League. The Tuatara were an expansion franchise of the Australian Baseball League, and they were the first ever professional baseball team in New Zealand.

With Carrasco as the pitching coach, the Tuatara currently have the third best ERA and WHIP in the league while holding opposing batters to the second lowest batting average. At the moment, their team is in first place in the Northeast Division.
