Dominic Smith To Join Kingsport Mets

New York Mets first round pick (11th overall) in the 2013 draft, first baseman Dominic Smith, has been promoted from the Gulf Coast League to the Appalachian League and will join the Kingsport Mets immediately.

ESPN’s Adam Rubin initially made the announcement. Noting that the lefty has been promoted at a pivotal time in the K-Mets season.

Smith was moved to the Kingsport Mets just in time for the league playoffs, as the K-Mets only have three games remaining this season.

The 18-year-old Smith was hitting .287/.384/.407 in 167 AB’s before his promotion. He has hit 22 RBI’s, 9 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs and has 2 stolen bases as well. Smith, a left handed thrower and batter out of Gardena, California, was granted a $2.6 million bonus after signing with the Mets earlier this year.
