I know one person who’d be happy to see the Mets draft this guy, and he’s not alone. The Mets don’t have much in the name of big named outfielders as of this moment with Brandon Nimmo’s stock continuing to dwindle, and Wuilmer Becerra, Ivan Wilson, and John Mora seem as only a few standouts for the outfield position. Desmond Lindsay‘s promising tools still prove to give an unclear trajectory.

The Mets don’t really have many primetime hitters in the outfield in general, except at the Major League Level, and by the time the draftee successfully ascends, Yoenis Cespedes and Curtis Granderson will be gone. The Mets could definitely stand to gain more high-upside outfielders in this coming draft.

In Scout.com’s 2nd Mock Draft, Jeff Ellis chose outfielder/first baseman Will Benson, a powerful left-handed batter with a lot of promise. Coming from the Westminster School in Georgia, Benson gets comparisons to Cubs Outfielder Jason Heyward for his smooth and quick left-handed swing as well as body type and local origins.

Benson is a physical specimen, at 6’6″, who runs at an above-average pace, and will play a plus right field.  However, with tall size, must come swing length, which creates a lot of swing and miss in this outfielder, especially with balls with spin, creating uncertain idea of how he will adjust to the pro ranks.

When William Benson connects though, there is a true POW, and the ball would go a long way in any direction he puts it. Potentially, Benson could be a .260/30 home run guy in right field.
