The Eastern League announced on Thursday afternoon that Binghamton Rumble Ponies first baseman Peter Alonso has been named the Player of the Month for April.

Alonso, 23, was ranked as our No. 3 Mets prospect coming into the 2018 season. The right-handed hitter slashed .408/.505/.776 with seven home runs and 19 RBI in the month of April.

He led the league in batting average, hits (31), extra-base hits (14), total bases (59), on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS (1.282). Alonso finished the month by homering in four of his last five games.

Alonso recently drew praise from Mets GM Sandy Alderson for his hot start and Keith Law recently mentioned that Peter would be in his Top 100 MLB prospects right now.

The first baseman has also improved his playing shape and defense at first base, two question marks he had coming into the season.

Gavin Cecchini back in July of 2015 was the last player in the Binghamton franchise to be named player of the month in the EL.
